Mischa Gabowitsch, senior researcher at the Einstein Forum in Potsdam, Germany, was a member of the 2007-2010 Society of Fellows cohort and a lecturer in the Department of Sociology. As the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II approaches, he will draw on recent archival research to go beyond interpretations of Soviet war memory as top-down propaganda, focusing specifically on the material and economic conditions of memorial production.
